Parking in Bexley
Bexley's busy streets have been getting busier and the Council
is having to make decisions on where people can and cannot park
while balancing the interests of residents, visitors, businesses
and shoppers.
We maintain a list of council-operated car
parks, including current charges, security facilities, and links
to maps.
We also maintain a list of on-street pay
and display facilites throughout
the Borough, featuring locations and charges of the facilities.
The Council is responsible for enforcing parking restrictions,
and employs VINCI Park UK (formerly Sureway Parking Services) to
enforce them. The Council is currently responsible for enforcement
of:
Yellow line waiting restrictions
- Residents' and business parking bays
- Bus Stop bays
- Disabled parking spaces
- Parking meters
- Pavement parking
- Council car parks
- Overnight lorry parks
- School entrance markings
- Pedestrian crossings and the zig zag markings approaching them
- Double parking (parking more than 50 centimetres from the kerbside)
- Parking in front of vehicular crossings/pedestrian accesses and pedestrian crossings
(subject to a Council resolution)
Bexley's parking regulations have been implemented with two main
aims in mind - to keep traffic flowing freely and to make the roads
as safe as possible. Enforcement is undertaken to achieve these
aims by deterring illegal parking.
Obstruction and enforcing Red Routes (A2 and A20) however, remain the responsibility
of the police. The Police can also enforce pedestrian crossings and the zig zag markings
approaching them. If enforced by the Police this could lead to your driving licence
being endorsed.
