The Population of Bexley on Census Day, 29 April 2001

The Office for National Statistics has now released the second set of results from the 2001 Census. The tables show a more detailed breakdown of the borough population including a breakdown by age, gender, ethnicity and religion.

On Census Day 2001, the population of Bexley was 218,307 with changes between 1991 and 2001 including:-

  • An increase in the number of children aged 10 to 14 (up 17%)
  • An increase in people aged 35 to 39 (up 23%)
  • An increase in people aged 50 to 54 (up 24%)
  • An increase in the number of elderly, those aged 85 and over (up 35%); and
  • A fall in the number of people aged 20 to 24 (down 28%)

More detailed ward based figures will be published by the Office for National Statistics later in the year.
