pages.
The Council meets for normal business four times a year in July,
November, February and April. An Annual Meeting is also held in
May when the main business is to elect a Mayor,
a leader and a cabinet, together with a number of other bodies.
A special meeting is held in March every year to agree the budget
for the following financial year and set the level of the Council
Tax.
Unlike the officers, Councillors are not employees of the Council
and they are not paid a salary for their duties. They do, however,
receive an allowance designed to recompense them for the work which
they undertake.
As well as forming part of the Council's decision-making
processes, Councillors also form an essential link between the
Council and the constituents they represent. As such, Councillors
are available to be contacted by constituents and many Councillors
hold regular "surgeries" in their Wards (see individual
Ward details for more information).
For more information on the Wards please see our Ward
map.
For more information on elected Councillors, please see our A
to Z listings.
If you are trying to find out who your local or European Member
of Parliament is, please see our parliamentary
representation page.

Changes to the complaints procedure
From 8 May 2008, the responsibility for considering complaints that a Member may have breached the Code of Conduct has moved to the standards committees of local authorities.
What this means to you
From 8 May 2008, if you want to complain about the conduct of a Member of the London Borough of Bexley, you must submit your complaint to:
The Standards Committee
FAO: The Monitoring Officer
London Borough of Bexley
Room 343
Civic Offices
Broadway
Bexleyheath, Kent
DA6 7LB
The Standards Committee can only deal with complaints about the behaviour of a Member. It will not deal with complaints about things that are not covered by the Members’ Code of Conduct. If you make a complaint to the Standards Committee, it must be about why you think a Member has not followed the Code of Conduct.
Further information is available on the Standards Board’s website at www.standardsboard.gov.uk |
