John Waters has lived in Bexley all his life. He is married, with one grown-up daughter.

John is the Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Housing. He is a non-executive director of Bexley Care Trust, which is responsible for NHS primary care services (eg GPs, dentists, opticians) in Bexley.

He is a governor of Mayplace Primary School and of Chislehurst and Sidcup Grammar School, and is a trustee of Bexley United Charities. His main interests on the Council are environmental and regeneration issues, and he has been actively opposing the Thames Gateway Bridge.

I have lived all my adult life in the borough. First elected to Bexley council at a bye-election in October 1987 representing Bostall Ward. Served as Mayor for Municipal year 2000-2001. As a result of boundary changes Bostall Ward was dissolved in 2002. I have represented Brampton Ward since that time.

Since Annual Council in May 2008, Councillor Simon Windle is the Deputy Leader of the Council, having held the portfolio of Cabinet Member for Schools, Adult Education and Youth Services since May 2006.  He has been both a Bexley Councillor representing Barnehurst Ward and a Governor at Blackfen School for Girls since 2002. In 2007, he also became a member of Bexley College’s Board of Corporation and in 2008 became a Governor at Chislehurst and Sidcup Grammar School.

In addition to his Deputy Leader and Cabinet responsibilities, Councillor Windle serves on Bexley’s:-

  • Admissions Forum
  • Education Joint Consultative Committee (Chairman),
  • Headteacher/Deputy Headteacher Appointments Panel (Chairman),
  • School Standards Group, and
  • Schools’ Forum

He has been appointed as one of the Council’s representatives on:-

  • Bexley Adult Learning and Skills Strategic Forum,
  • Bexley Children’s and Young People’s Trust,
  • Bexley Education Business Partnership Supervisory Board,
  • Bexley Education Professional Development Advisory Group,
  • Connexions Local Management Group,
  • Corporate Parenting Forum,
  • Partnership of Parents and Providers of Young People’s Services (POPPYS), and
  • Rochester Diocese Board of Education.

Following his graduation from the University of Bath, after reading for a degree in Mathematics with Industrial Placement, and his P.G.C.E. at the University of Southampton, Councillor Windle has lived in Bexleyheath since 1995, teaching Mathematics to 11 to 18 year olds, firstly, at Bexleyheath School, at one Kent Boys and one Medway mixed Grammar Schools but currently in Gravesend, Kent.
