Business Continuity Promotions
Project Argus Event
22 January 2008
The Council’s Emergency Planning team and the Metropolitan Police
from Bexleyheath and SO15 Counter terrorism Command jointly organised an
event aimed at the Business Community. This event covered counter terrorism
guidance and Business Continuity Promotion from the council.
The event was held at the civic centre on 22 January 2008 and was divided
into two parts. The morning session dealt with the day time businesses with
20 attendees mainly from the Broadway shopping area. The afternoon session
concentrated on the night time economy around the Bexleyheath Town Centre.
This attracted another 20 attendees mainly from the licensing trade.
The event was opened in the morning by Superintendent Bagg from Bexleyheath
Police and in the afternoon by Tony Plowright Bexley Council Emergency Planning
Manager. The first speaker was from Scotland Yards Counter-Terrorism Command
and gave the audience an up-to-date account of the threat from terrorism.
He then went into the measures that the business should be taking to ensure
their customers are safe and to ensure they have current emergency plans.
Tony Plowright then gave a promotion on business continuity and highlighted
the need for all businesses ,whatever the size, to assess their risks, develop
a plan and train staff so they are prepared to deal with emergency incidents.
The attendees then broke out into workshop groups to engage with other business
and highlight any areas where improvements to their existing plans could
be made. The event concluded with a plenary session for the panel to
take questions. |
