Equality and Diversity
Welcome to London Borough of Bexley's equality and diversity site.
The Council's commitment to equality
London Borough of Bexley is committed to equality and diversity in employment practice and service delivery. The Council intends to achieve all its targets in respect of the equalities agenda and become recognised as a leader on equalities.
Our aims are to:
- Promote equality of opportunity
- Eliminate unlawful discrimination, and
- Promote good relations between people from different backgrounds.
The national context
The national equalities agenda has a high profile. As well as gender, race and disability, legislation now covers discrimination on grounds religion, belief, age and sexual orientation.
What the Council is doing
The Council is taking steps to:
- make services more accessible and ensure take-up by all sections of the community.
- remove any barriers that prevent people from minority groups achieving their full potential as employees and prospective employees.
- carry out service reviews to assess the impact of Council policies on black and minority ethnic communities in the Borough.
- implement an Equality Action Plan to mainstream equality and diversity issues across all service areas.
The Council is keen to maintain a high equalities profile across the full range of its services. The Council is also working on projects to help communities in some of the more deprived parts of the Borough.
In order to support our black and minority ethnic staff, the Council has set up a Black Workers Group. The Group makes valuable contribution to the development of Council policies in order to help make services more responsive to the needs of all communities. |
