Publication Scheme

7. Individual requests for Information from January 2005

From January 2005 anyone will be able to make a written request for information. Any request must supply the detail necessary to enable the information to be identified. The Act gives applicants two related rights:

  • The right to be told whether the information exists;
  • The right to receive the information (and where possible, in the manner requested, i.e. as a copy or summary, or the applicant may ask to inspect a record).

The Council will normally have to respond to any requests under the Act within 20 working days. Should information take longer than this to produce or retrieve, we will contact you within 20 working days to inform you when you can expect our response. If a fee is required, the 20 working days will be extended by up to three months until the fee is paid.
