The Mayor's Picture Gallery
Annual Borough Carol Service at St. John's Church, Sidcup
The Mayor joined a packed congregation at this year’s Annual Borough
Carol Service, which was held at St. John’s Church, Sidcup, on Sunday
9 December 2007.
The service is organised every year by the Churches Together in Sidcup and
the London Borough of Bexley. Once again, choirs from two local schools played
their part with wonderful performances from Townley Road Grammar School for
Girls and the Harenc Preparatory School for Boys.
The Bexley Band entertained with several pieces specially prepared for the
day and they accompanied the singing of the carols.
A particularly moving sketch was performed by CRiBS (Christian Resources in
Bexley Schools). To the sounds of ‘In the bleak midwinter’ an actor
spoke powerfully the Christmas message of giving your heart, but he never said
a word. The performance left everyone quite stunned and thoughtful.
The congregation donated £351.75p from the collection to the Mayor’s ‘Stepping
out’ appeal, which is raising funds for the young people in the Borough
who have caring responsibilities for older family members. The money raised
will help the young people to ‘step out’ from their responsibilities
for a few hours or days and become children again.
