Member of Parliament for Bexleyheath and Crayford since May 2005, having previously been MP for Erith and Crayford (1983-1997).
Married to Marilyn and with two grown up sons, David lives locally in Barnehurst. He is a Governor of Townley Girls' Grammar School and St. Paulinus' C of E Primary School. He is a regular attendee at St. Paulinus' Church, a keen supporter of Bexley Club for the Disabled and a Friend of Bexley and Greenwich Hospice.
David was educated at grammar school (Buckhurst Hill County High School for Boys) and the London School of Economics and Political Science. Trained as a teacher, David has taught in secondary school and been a lecturer in Management, as well as being an insurance broker and director in the City.
During his time in the House of Commons, David has been a member of the Select Committee on Education, Science and the Arts (1986-1992) and served as a Parliamentary Private Secretary in the Education Department, the Welsh Office and the Home Office during the 1992-1997 Parliament. David served as a London Borough councillor in Redbridge (1974-78) and stood as the Conservative candidate for Hackney South and Shoreditch in the General Election of 1979.
