Freedom of Information

The Freedom of Information Act 2000 makes provision for the disclosure of information held by public authorities or by persons providing services for them and amends the Data Protection Act 1998 and the Public Records Act 1958; and connected purposes.

It establishes a right to information, whereby any person making a request for information to a public authority is entitled to be informed in writing by the public authority whether it holds information of the description specified in the request, and if that is the case, to have that information communicated to him.
