How Approved Contractors Lists Work

Construction Team

New lists usually come into effect from 1 March. The position on the list of a successful applicant is randomly selected by computer and tender invitations are dependant on the Council's Programme of Works in any two year cycle of the Lists.

Contractors are selected for invitations to tender on the basis of the two contractors who submitted the most competitive tenders on a previous occasion a similar contract was let on the same list, plus the next four contractors issued in strict rotation (taking into account any financial limits referring to any company) for schemes valued in excess of £25,000 or one contractor (issued in strict rotation) for schemes less than £25,000.

Contractors should be aware that any preference for a particular type of work cannot be accommodated in any given list. Tenders for specialist works are normally the subject of a public advertisement to which suitable contractors may respond.

Suspension from the Lists

Contractors may be suspended for any of the following reasons and, in some cases, suspension could lead to removal of any individual contractor from one or more lists.

  1. Failing on a number of occasion to submit tenders without a valid reason stated in writing

  2. Withdrawing or otherwise invalidating tenders on a number of occasions

  3. Submitting tenders on a number of occasions which are considered to be uncompetitively priced

  4. Performance on a contract which is considered to be unacceptable in any of a number of key areas, e.g. Health & Safety Regulations, CDM, workmanship, etc.

  5. A change in your company name or status

  6. If your company is taken into receivership or otherwise ceases to trade

  7. If you request suspension or removal from a List or Lists at any time during the two year cycle of the Lists
