Changes to benefits

The government is making significant changes to the welfare/benefits system.

Benefit changes - help and advice

  • Support and advice

    Guidance is available from a range of different groups in Bexley. The support can range from employment help to childcare tips.

  • Benefit cap

    From 15 July 2013 onwards the amount of benefit you can receive will be capped.

  • Disability Living Allowance

    All residents receiving Disability Living Allowance will be reassessed when DLA is replaced by Personal Independence Payments (PIP). Find out when this will affect you.

  • Universal Credit

    From October 2013 work related benefits as well as Child Tax Credit and Housing Benefit will be replaced by Universal Credit, which will be administered by the Department for Work and Pensions.

  • Under occupation

    From April 2013 if you live in a social rented sector property and have one or more unoccupied bedrooms your housing benefit may be reduced.

  • Council Tax Reduction Scheme

    Changes to legislation mean that from April 2013 it will be the Council's responsibility to adopt a Council Tax Reduction Scheme.
