Don't be scared, be prepared

Do you and your loved ones know what to do in an emergency?

Although Bexley has defences to prevent river flooding, surface water flooding, which is caused by prolonged heavy rain, can occur anywhere. Let's also not forget that emergencies take many forms, with fires and power cuts possible almost anywhere.

Have you ever thought about the prospect of being evacuated from your home because of an emergency? This is not as unlikely as it may first seem. The following emergencies recently occurred in the borough and resulted in Bexley residents having to be evacuated to safety.

  • A suspected World War II bomb in Bexley
  • A police siege in Sidcup
  • A building collapse in Bexleyheath
  • A major gas leak

So don't be complacent; make a home emergency plan. A little time and effort now will give you much reassurance if the unexpected occurs. Why not make use of our home emergency plan template available under Related Media on the right of this page.
