- Is situated in the south east of London
- Borders the Thames to the north, the boroughs of Greenwich to the west, Bromley to the south and County of Kent to the east
- Covers an area of 23 square miles (6,400 hectares)
- Has existed as a borough since the 1960's
- Has four major district centres - Crayford, Erith, Sidcup and Welling
- Is one of the greenest boroughs in London with over 100 parks and open spaces
- Bexleyheath has experienced a major expansion in the recent past and the shopping mall has recently undergone major refurbishment, resisting the challenge of Bluewater, and is considered one of the most viable town centres in London.
- Has nine Primary Employment Areas (not all of which are located in town centres)
- Is close to the M25, and A2
- Is close to Channel Tunnel and high-speed Channel Tunnel Rail Link station at Ebbsfleet
- The nearest Thames River crossing is the Dartford QEII Bridge.

2011 Census population
The Office of National Statistics (ONS) carried out the 2011 UK Census on 27 March 2011 and the estimated population in Bexley in 2011 is 232,000.
