Newly qualified teachers

We are currently updating the information on these pages which will be available very soon. In the meantime should you have any queries or require further details please do not hesitate to contact a member of the School Workforce Development Team who will be happy to assist. Contact details for the team can be found on the menu to the right.

The London Borough of Bexley operates an Newly Qualified Teachers (NQT) pool for primary and secondary school appointments. If you are accepted into the pool, your details will be circulated to all schools in the Borough.  The pool is aimed at trainee teachers who are in their final year of training. Schools use the pool to appoint teachers to posts which begin in September each year.

Unfortunately Bexley's NQT pools have already taken place this year.  For further details of current vacancies please select  School Workforce - register your interest to work in a Bexley school under the related links menu on the right or contact the School Workforce Development Team using the contact details in the right hand menu.

What happens once I've registered for the pool?

You will be invited to Bexley's NQT Recruitment Fair where you will meet representatives from Bexley schools and have an informal interview, as well as opportunities to find out more about Housing, Childcare, Vacancies, visit schools, gain information on support during your NQT Induction Year and gain information about education in Bexley.

Your details will then be entered on the NQT database/ NQT pool that is available to Bexley schools on a secure intranet site.

Once a school has appointed you, either yourself or the school informs the School Workforce Development Team so that your details can be taken off the database and we will then inform the Schools HR and the NQT Induction Teams.

Note:
Inclusion on the NQT Pool does not constitute an offer of employment. This can only be done by headteachers and governing bodies. You are, of course, free to accept or decline any offer made to you by a school.

Bexley's NQT Programme

Bexley's NQT Induction Programme is specifically targeted at the Department for Education (DFE) Standards for Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and the induction standards for NQTs. It comprehensively deals with the key areas of planning, classroom management, effective teaching styles, assessment and professionalism required for the successful completion of the NQT Induction Year.

The programme is designed to complement regular mentoring in school with an induction tutor, which focuses on the day to day needs and builds a sound evidence base for judgements to be made at the end of the year. Our induction trainers will expect NQTs to reflect on their training and practical experiences in school in order to refine their own skills of self-evaluation. The programme will enable NQT's to develop a portfolio of training evidence for the end of the year assessment purposes.

Participants will:

  • Receive training tailored to meet the requirements of the DFE standards for QTS and induction standards
  • Receive support and training in their specialist teaching subject
  • Develop a portfolio of training evidence and teaching experience to help them to meet their Career Entry Profile targets and the DFE Induction Standards for full registration as a teacher
