Real nappies

Did you know that by the time a baby is potty trained they could have worn 4,000-6,000 nappies?

Real nappies

Using real nappies, breathable cotton with a liner and waterproof wrap, can save hundreds of pounds and reduce the amount of rubbish going to landfill.

Do your bit to protect the environment and your child's future.

Real choice

Mums and dads now have real options with nappies; we're talking real nappies.

Real nappies are an easy-to-use, practical alternative to disposables. They are cheaper, and reduce rubbish going to landfill, which is why more and more families are choosing them.

Real savings

The total cost of using real nappies can be at least half that of using disposables if home laundered, with further savings being made if they are also used on subsequent children.

Working with Real Nappies for London, London Borough of Bexley are giving away limited real nappy for London vouchers to interested parents/carers who live in the Bexley Borough. To apply for your £40 voucher please visit the Real Nappies for London website (link in right hand menu). Vouchers can also be applied for at our monthly Nappuccino meetings on the first Wednesday of every month. At these you can talk to a nappy advisor and get more information on the different types of real nappies available. For more information see real nappies - information (link in left hand menu) or contact the council on 020 8303 7777 option 1.

The Women's Environmental Network runs a second-hand, nappy exchange, which can also save you money.

Real rubbish reduction

Over 15 million disposable nappies are thrown away in Bexley every year which costs £190,000 to dispose of. Most disposables end up in a landfill site where they pollute the environment and take many years to degrade. Reduce your rubbish by choosing real nappies.

Real health

Real nappies are mostly made from natural fabrics and are therefore breathable and very comfortable to wear. Also unlike many disposables, they do not contain super-absorbent chemicals.

Real easy to use

Real nappies are made from soft breathable cotton and are used with a biodegradable or flushable liner and a waterproof wrap to prevent leaks, which work together to provide maximum comfort and reliability. They come in lots of modern and funky styles and there are a variety of different types (please see types of real nappies in the left hand menu for more information).

Top tips

When storing used nappies in a bucket to be washed, sprinkle over a few drops of tea tree or lavender oil. It is antibacterial and also smells nice!

Extremely reliable

"I chose One Size nappies, wraps and fleece one way liners for my son, Cameron. I love the nappies because they are absorbent, quick to dry and economical as one size adjusts with poppers to fit from birth to toddler. The wraps are made of a soft breathable, waterproof material and the poppers adjust around the legs and waist to give an excellent fit. The one way liners keep his skin soft and dry. I have found real nappies easy to use and extremely reliable." (Morag, mum to Katie, Jenna, Sam and Cameron).

It really is easy!

Set up your changing station with your pre folded nappies, liners and outer cases ready to use.

Soft nappies

If you live in a hard water area, put a tablespoon of white vinegar in the rinse cycle, it softens the nappies nicely.
