Bexley Environmental Challenge Logo

The Environmental Challenge was launched in 1993 by the then Councillor Mrs Jean Antenbring. The competition aims to promote and reward the environmental work undertaken within the London Borough of Bexley by an individual, school, business, group or community.

How to enter
Please see the entry form on the top right hand side of this page, the closing date for entrants is 30 April 2013. Following the closing date all shortlisted entrants will be given a date in June 2013 when the judging will take place, anyone can enter and categories include: -

Green Business Green Business
This category is open to businesses who have devised and carried out sustainable policies in any or all of the following: - green travel plans; waste minimisation; recycling; using environmentally friendly vehicles; introducing a cycle to work scheme, water efficiency; policies to reduce carbon footprint (turning lights off etc).

Green Nursery and Primary School Green Nursery and Primary School
A school approach to educating the children in environmental issues such as - recycling, vegetable gardens, wildlife gardens, nature conservation, tackling climate change, energy efficiency, water conservation, tree planting, and wildlife pond for nature.

Green Secondary School Green Secondary School and College
A school approach to educating the children in environmental issues such as - recycling, vegetable gardens, wildlife gardens, nature conservation, tackling climate change, energy efficiency, water conservation, tree planting, and wildlife pond for nature.

Green Project/Group Green Project or Group
Individual or groups who have undertaken an environmental project to improve a public space or carried out work to benefit the environment can enter this category. 

Clyde Pugh Clyde Pugh
This category is specifically for an adult or child who give up their spare time to educate others in environmental issues or carries out an environmental project that benefits the community. 

Climate Change
Climate Change
A person or group who have undertaken a project to minimise their carbon footprint, or educated others to increase awareness  and influence people's behaviour towards climate change.

Green Household
Green Household 
Open to any householder that benefits the environment, for example - fitting solar panels, installing energy saving devices, recycling, using environmentally friendly products, growing food, insulating the house, or wildlife friendly garden.

Green Building
Green Building
New or refurbished buildings that are environmentally friendly or have significant features that reduce their environmental impact. This can include installation of wind turbines, solar panels, installing energy saving devices, water efficiency, and installation.

Judging
On the day of judging the project will be visited by a panel of judges and your project will be filmed and recorded. Entrants can make the best of this visit by presenting their project and talking about the changes their project has made to the environment. The film and recording will be shown at the Bexley Environmental Challenge awards evening, so it is advisable to rehearse the presentation. When the judging panel visit a school they like to see children give the presentation.

Presentation of awards
Everyone that enters the Environmental Challenge will be invited to the Awards Ceremony on 7 October 2013. Awards are given to every entrant, awards include certificates, cash prizes which range from £20.00 up to £1,000.00 (donated by Cory Environmental), trophies, and Jeannie awards (glass trophies which are permanent reminders of achievements named after Mrs Jean Antenbring, who originally set up the event by in 1993).
