Bexley's Business Process

Corporate planning.

The aim of performance management in Bexley is to deliver improved services to residents linked to the borough's long term aspirations as set out in 'Bexley Together', Bexley's Sustainable Community Strategy.

Bexley's 'Business Process' sets out the Council's responsibilities for delivering this longer term overall vision, translating it into overarching three-year key priorities through to aims and objectives for individual departments, teams and staff. This cascade process is referred to as the 'golden thread'.

The process consists of a number of components which can be accessed through the Performance Management Portfolio.

The Council's Corporate Plan for 2011/14 sits at the head of the improvement planning process. It sets out the Council's key priorities and commitments over the next three years.

Departmental planning

The Departmental plans set out the aims and objectives of the individual deputy directors including their detailed priorities and performance targets for the next three years. The departmental plans demonstrate a clear link to the Council's overall aims and objectives as set out in the Corporate Plan 2011/14.

The final stage of the corporate planning framework is the staff appraisal process. This is which contribute towards achievement of Corporate or Departmental priorities used to set personal objectives and development plans for all staff for the year.

The 'golden thread' in Bexley's Business Process ensures that the aims and objectives of all staff link into departmental work plans and the Council's overall aims and objectives published in the Corporate Plan.
