Catering in schools
In Bexley, the majority of primary schools have opted to be included within a centrally managed school meals contract.
This contract is currently awarded until July 2017 to Harrison Catering Services and is monitored by the Client Unit.
The catering within secondary schools in the borough is provided by caterers chosen by each school. Please contact your child's head teacher if you have any queries or concerns regarding the catering service provided in a secondary school.
Bexley's primary school menu is approved by a qualified nutritionist and complies with the Government's food-based and nutritional standards for school lunches. Harrison use good quality fresh ingredients and cook food on site wherever possible to ensure that your child can choose a tasty, healthy and nutritious meal at lunchtime. The menu operates on a 3-week cycle and offers a choice of items including a vegetarian option for children to select from. Arrangements can be made for children requiring special diets for religious or health reasons. Please contact your child's head teacher or Harrison Catering Services on 01689 892542.
From September 2014 all KS1 pupils (Reception, Year 1 and Year 2) will be entitled to a free school meal. For further details please contact your child's school.
The current price of a primary school meal for KS2 pupils (Years 3 - 6) for schools within Bexley's central school meals contract is £2.10 per day. Free school meals for KS2 pupils are available to families in receipt of certain benefits. Details of how to apply can be obtained by phoning 020 8303 7777.
If you have a query about the quality or content of school meals, please contact your child's school or the Client Unit.
