Abandoned vehicles - reporting and procedures.
The Enviro Crime Team deal with abandoned vehicles on the public highway and certain areas of private land. It is an offence to abandon a vehicle and the removal of unwanted vehicle significantly reduces car crime and car fires.
If you know of a vehicle which you believe is abandoned, complete the online form giving as much detail as you can. An abandoned vehicle is usually untaxed and in a state of disrepair.
The vehicle will be inspected and removed subject to satisfactory clearance of statutory legal checks and confirmation it is abandoned.
If a vehicle is untaxed but is being driven regularly, or in good condition, please report this to the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency. If you have a query regarding taxing or registering a vehicle or information about Statutory Off Road Notices (SORN), please visit the DVLA website.
Bexley Council offer a free service to Bexley residents to dispose of unwanted vehicles. You should be the registered keeper of the vehicle. If you would like to use this service please contact the Enviro Crime Team.
All scrapped and unclaimed abandoned vehicles are de-polluted before destruction and a percentage of materials are recovered for re-use or recycling.
