Conservative Success at Local Elections
Bexley Council is under Conservative control following the local elections on Thursday 4 May.
The party captured 23 seats from Labour.
The new Council will have 54 Conservative councillors and nine Labour councillors. The election result for 2002 was: Labour 32; Conservative 30; Liberal Democrat 1.
In his victory speech in the early hours of Friday morning, Cllr Ian Clement, leader elect of the Conservative group on the Council said: "We will not let the people of Bexley down. We have listened to them - now we are ready to work for them."
Turnout increased in all but one of the borough's 21 wards and was 42.35% overall. The count was completed at around 2:40am.
