Trinity School's New Floodlit Synthetic Pitch Opens
It was all smiles at a Belvedere school last month (19 July) when it officially opened its new floodlit synthetic sports pitch.
The event doubled up as prize giving day for year seven to nine pupils at Trinity School in Erith Road. And special guest Hilary Rose - a former Great Britain hockey goalkeeper - was on hand to declare the facility open for use. Other guests included local Councillors Bernard Clewes MBE and Margaret O'Neill.
There was a demonstration of the pitch in use by pupils from the school, who will benefit significantly from this new facility, as it will enable them to play sports such as hockey on a high quality, purpose built surface.
This was the fifth and final opening of a major project that began in 2002 to upgrade PE and sports facilities at schools in the borough. Almost £2 million for the project came from the Big Lottery Fund (BLF) through the New Opportunities for PE and Sport (NOPES) programme, which supports the development of indoor and outdoor sports facilities at schools.
Other elements of the project were new floodlit sports pitches at: Westwood College, Welling; Woodside School, Belvedere and Hurstmere School, Sidcup and a hydrotherapy pool at Marlborough School. All these facilities are now available for the community to hire outside normal school hours. For more information and to book the facilities please contact the schools direct.
Trinity School is already taking bookings for use from September 2006. Booking forms can be obtained direct from the school on 01322 441371.
All the new facilities will also be used for various sporting activities
for 8-16 year olds over the school summer holidays.
