Unity within Diversity conference success

Bexley Council for Racial Equality recently held a groundbreaking conference for the young people of Bexley.

The 'Unity within Diversity' conference invited young people to take part in a range of workshops designed to get them talking about the issue of racism in the borough. The workshop themes included, 'Gang Culture', 'Combating Racism in an Educational Setting' and 'Anti-Social Behaviour'. Find out more about the conference.

30 March - Kent Cup Win for St Columba's Boys

Year nine boys from St Columba's had something to celebrate this week (27 March) when they were named winners of the Wilf Armory Trophy, Kent Cup at the finals at the new Dartford Stadium.

30 March - St Columba's Trophy Winning Artwork

Artistic students at St Columba's have had their talent recognised by winning the Schools Trophy at a popular art exhibition at Hall Place.

30 March - Refuse and Recycling Over Easter

On Good Friday 6 April all refuse and recycling collections will take place as normal. There will be no collection on Easter Monday 9 April. All collections have been revised.

29 March - Youth Summit Comes to Bexley

Young people from 10 secondary schools in Bexley came to the Civic Offices last week (20 March) to take part in the Annual Youth Summit. The event is designed to raise the profile of Bexley's Youth Council and provide young people with a platform to express their views on issues that are important to them.

29 March - Birth and Death Certificates Online

After 26 years recording Bexley's births, marriages and deaths - including four years working after her official retirement date - Eileen Smith used her pen to fill in the borough's last handwritten birth registration certificate on Friday, 23 March.

28 March - Childcare Success For Bexley Students

Childcare students from Bexley came together to celebrate their recent exam successes last week (20 March) at a special presentation evening.

23 March - Specials on Parade

A celebratory parade to mark 175 years of Metropolitan Police Special Constables, will set off from Albion Road, Bexleyheath, on Saturday 31 March at 11am.

26 March - Another Alcohol Licence Is Revoked

Bexley Council has revoked another licence to sell alcohol - as part of its borough-wide campaign to crackdown on anti-social behaviour fuelled by the sale of drink to under-age youths.

23 March - Specials on Parade

A celebratory parade to mark 175 years of Metropolitan Police Special Constables, will set off from Albion Road, Bexleyheath, on Saturday 31 March at 11am.

A special event is being held next month for local residents and key workers who are keen to get a foot on the housing ladder.

21 March - Groundbreaking Education Project Comes to Bexley

Bexley was this week (19 March) named as one of ten local authorities across England to take part in a groundbreaking education project called 'Making Good Progress'.

21 March - Hainault and Carlton Resource Centre Projects Move on to Next Stage

The results of the formal three month consultation on the future development of learning disability services based at Hainault in Erith, and Carlton Resource Centre, Sidcup, were put before Bexley's Public Cabinet meeting last night (Tuesday 20 March).

Bexley businesses involved in the preparation, selling or serving of food, are being encouraged to recycle more of their waste under a new recycling service launched by Bexley Council.

21 March - A Closer Look at the Crayford School Project

Bexley Council's Cabinet Members decided last night (20 March) that they had no choice but to put the Crayford One School Pathfinder Project on hold for the moment after hearing that a recently completed feasibility study has indicated that the new school would cost £29.9 million to deliver everything necessary.

21 March - The Next Step Forward for Colyers and Normandy Schools

Plans for a groundbreaking community facility that will see a single primary school and children's centre on one site took a big step forward last night (20 March).

20 March - £1,000 Fine for Selling Fireworks to Under-Age Boy

An Erith shopkeeper, Melanie Jane Castleton, was fined £1,000 and ordered to pay £400 costs by Bexley Magistrates on 15 March after being found guilty of three counts of supplying fireworks to someone under 18 on 23 October 2006.

20 March - Crossness Enhancements Receive Commendation

Environmental work at the Crossness Southern Marshes and Crossness Nature Reserve, owned by Thames Water, has been commended by the judges of an important environmental award.

19 March - Local People Have Their Say on the Future of Erith

The winner of a special prize draw organised by Bexley Council will be announced at the next meeting of the Erith Town Forum at 7pm on Wednesday 28 March at the Veterans' Clubs in Park Crescent, off Glebe Way, Erith. Everyone with an interest in the future of Erith is welcome to attend.
