Supporting People in Bexley

Bexley Council will be bringing in a new provider to manage the on-site workers who support residents in some of the borough's sheltered housing schemes. The service to residents of the schemes will not be affected by the change of provider.

New arrangements need to be made because London & Quadrant Housing Association has made a financial decision to relinquish its current support role, which involves staff who used to be known as wardens. The Council and L&Q hope that most of the support workers will transfer to the new managing organisation.

The issue is not related to the current discussions on the future of L&Q's sheltered housing schemes in the borough.

Bexley Council is working closely with L&Q to ensure a smooth handover to a new managing organisation, which will take over in July.

L&Q will continue to be landlord of the properties, providing services such as rent collection and maintenance, and will work closely with the new organisation.

Officers from Bexley Council and London & Quadrant have arranged a series of meetings with residents to explain the new arrangements, to answer questions and to hear their views. Relatives and friends of the residents are also welcome to attend.
