85% Say 'Yes' to Improved Pedestrian Facilities on Sidcup Hill
More than 270 residents of Sidcup Hill and nearby roads voted on an improvement scheme along Sidcup Hill, with 85% giving an overwhelming 'thumbs up' to measures to tackle the two problems of lack of pedestrian crossing facilities and a higher than average road collision rate.
Bexley Council will now install two new zebra crossings, improve existing pedestrian refuges and improve street lighting at the junction with Knoll Road, where a raised table will also be introduced to help slow down traffic, along with a new vehicle activated warning sign.
The Council has listened to concerns over the proposed parking restrictions and has made substantial changes, introducing 'at any time' waiting restrictions solely to the corners of each junction.
Commenting, Bexley's Cabinet Member for Transport, Cllr Peter Craske, said: "Residents of Sidcup Hill and neighbouring roads have asked the Council to help address the lack of crossing facilities and the higher than average accident rate, and there is overwhelming support for the package of measures. I have listened to the concerns over parking restrictions and have amended them substantially."
"People in Cray Meadows ward asked their local councillors, Cllr Don Massey, Cllr Cheryl Bacon and Cllr Ross Downing to resolve the two problems and we are pleased to have helped deliver this for residents living in, and close to, Sidcup Hill. It shows when we say we are "listening to you, working for you" we mean it."
