On Course for a Bumper Danson Festival
The countdown is well advanced for this July's Danson Festival, the spectacular
free weekend of fun and frolic in a parkland setting. This year's bumper event
is being organised by Bexley Council in conjunction with an award-winning outdoor
event production and management company, Richmond Event Management (REM).
Managing Director Mike Richmond says his team is delighted to be working with
the Council. "It's all about people enjoying themselves, " he said, "and
the Danson Festival already has an established reputation for providing fun
for all the family in a beautiful setting. We're looking forward to it as much
as the festival-goers."
Again this year a feast of entertainment is planned, ranging from headline
music acts including the Allstars, featuring Jocelyn Brown, and the Latin Salsa
Band, Conjunto Sabrosa, to dance performance and from interactive sports and
arts to attractions everyone can enjoy.
The official Tour de France Road Show will be making a 'grand arrivée'
at the Festival on Sunday, 1 July, exactly a week before the Grand Départ
on 8 July, when the first stage of the race, with 200 of the world's top cyclists,
will pass through the north of the borough.
At the Road Show, visitors will be able to take part in a simulated bike ride
along part of the Tour de France route that will test their stamina against
the top cycling legends.
The festival has been running since 2002 when it replaced the annual Bexley
Show and It has grown to be one of the largest events of its kind in South
East London and North West Kent. It is the established flagship of the
borough's events programme.
