Association puts Bobbies on their Bikes
L&Q Housing Trust has donated £4,000 to pay for new bikes for two
of Bexley's Safer Neighbourhoods teams.
David Gannicott, L&Q's Group Director for the South East Thames region,
presented the cheque to the Blackfen & Lamorbey and Danson Safer Neighbourhoods
Teams earlier this month at L&Q's offices in Woolwich.
Mr Gannicott said: "London & Quadrant Housing Trust has given the
two Safer Neighbourhood Teams more than £4,000 so that they can buy bicycles
to patrol the streets. Blackfen & Lamorbey and Danson Park Safer Neighbourhoods
Teams will now be able to carry out more frequent patrols, which we hope will
reduce crime and anti-social behaviour in these areas."
"The money has come from our Community Growth Fund, a small grant scheme
set up to aid the growth and development of local communities by supporting key
partners like the police. L&Q has an excellent relationship with the police
in Bexley and by working together we hope we can help make the borough a place
where people really want to live."
Inspector Simon Ashenden said: "London & Quadrant are working closely
with Bexley Police and Bexley Community Safety Partnership. Their contribution
towards local policing and community safety will be seen at first hand by the
residents, visitors and businesses in the shape of enhanced daily cycle patrols,
increasing the effectiveness of local policing".
Sergeant Brian Sherlock, Blackfen & Lamorbey SN Team added: "I am
very grateful to London & Quadrant and their residents for their support
in our funding applications. This funding will allow Blackfen & Lamorbey
Safer Neighbourhoods Policing Team to buy a number of cycles to enhance our patrol
capabilities and to increase our visibility in the whole ward, which will provide
greater reassurance to our residents and help us to reduce crime and bring more
offenders to justice."
