Go Ride Your Bike in Danson Park
A double bill of cycling fun is in store at Danson Park on Saturday 16 June, thanks to local youth cycling club, Go-Ride Bexley.
The free event, that will include races and demonstrations of bike handling skills, is being held to celebrate the club's recent success in securing national accreditation.
Former Junior National Triathlon Champion, Abbie Thorrington, will be on hand to present the club with the national accreditation certificate and provide an insight into her sport, which includes not only cycling, but swimming and running as well.
On the same day a fun family ride will take place around the 2.5 mile perimeter of Danson Park. A free goodie bag and certificate will go to cyclists that complete at least one lap. Anyone taking part in the fun ride must bring their own bike. Helmets are recommended. Check-in for the event will start at 2.30pm (opposite the children's playground area) with the ride beginning at 3.30pm.
The Family Fun ride falls within National Bike Week (16-24 June), a national campaign to promote recreational cycling across the country.
Go-Ride work with Bexley Council to provide a programme of fun coaching activities. These are designed to teach young people cycling skills in a safe environment and introduce them to the range of cycling disciplines such as mountain biking, BMX, road and track riding.
