Fly Tipper Fined Thanks to Enviro Crime Evidence
A fly tipper has been fined for dumping rubbish in Belvedere thanks to the
vigilence of a member of the public and the London Borough of Bexley's Enviro
Crime team.
Raghbir Bansal pleaded guilty to fly tipping under the Environmental Protection
Act 1990 at Bexley Magistrates' Court on 4 February. Mr Bansal was fined £150
and was ordered to pay the London Borough of Bexley compensation and its costs.
"The London Borough of Bexley treats this sort of offence very seriously,
and the diligent actions taken by our officers in this case should serve as
a warning for others who may be tempted to dump their waste illegally;" says
the Council's Cabinet Member for the Environment, Cllr
Gareth Bacon.
"The Council has provided a multitude of legitimate means for residents
and businesses to dispose of their waste and we will not tolerate fly tipping
under any circumstances."
A member of the public reported a man unloading several sacks of rubbish and
a computer monitor from a vehicle in Parkside Road, Belvedere on 30 September
2007.
An Enviro Crime Officer visited the site and retrieved a bag containing correspondence.
The vehicle was traced to Mr Raghbir Bansal of 82 Rochester Drive, Bexley.
The correspondence provided valuable evidence linking the fly tipping to an
address registered to the offender's wife.
Mr Bansal attended the Council's offices last October, where he was interviewed
under caution and admitted the offence.
