Three Bexley Libraries Go Wireless

Bexley's Library Service now offers free Wireless Internet access at three of its libraries: Central Library, Bexleyheath; Sidcup Library, Hadlow Road; and Welling Library, Bellegrove Road.

Wi-Fi, or 'wireless fidelity', allows the connection of Wi-Fi enabled mobile devices such as notebook computers, laptops, personal digital assistants (PDAs) and mobile phones to the Internet via a wireless network.

Rolling out Wi-Fi services is part of the London Borough of Bexley's Vision to provide its customers with state-of-the-art facilities and access to information.

Increasing Wi-Fi services also fits into the Government's e-services agenda, which aims to ensuring that every citizen in the UK has access to e-services via the internet.

Wi-Fi facilities provide flexibility and choice. Bexley Library Service customers with wireless enabled laptops or devices can now access the virtual world and surf the web for business, study and leisure with greater ease than ever before. Customers can also be assured that accessing the internet via Wi-Fi facilities in Bexley's libraries is safely filtered, just like all the public computers in libraries.

Using the Wi-Fi facilities avoids the need to book a library computer and is completely free of charge. Customers can access the Wi-Fi network while using other library facilities and services, such as borrowing books, selecting a DVD and reading the newspapers, making a visit to a library a more enjoyable experience all-round.

If you wish to know how to connect to the Wi-Fi system, please ask a member of the Library staff.
