Council Seeks Views on Crayford Residential Design Code
The London Borough of Bexley wants to hear the views of the public and other
interested parties on a residential design code for Crayford town centre.
The code sets out Bexley's aspirations for the design of new housing in Crayford
town centre. The aim of the code is to encourage good contextual design, both
traditional and contemporary, taking Crayford's architectural and industrial
legacy into consideration. This legacy dates back to the Victorian period.
An exhibition including plans and sketches will be on display at Crayford
Library between Monday 3 March and Friday 28 March.
"We are at the beginning of a very exciting time for Crayford," says
Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Housing, Cllr
John Waters. "We have
the chance to breathe new life into the town centre and we want to make sure
that residents and businesses have their say on exactly what they would like
to see in any new development. I would encourage anyone interested in the future
of Crayford to visit the exhibition."
The code has been developed using the 2005 Crayford Strategy and Action Plan
and taking into account current policies for sustainable development. These
include the use of renewable energy sources, water conservation, along with
material and water management. A high priority is given to the improvement
of the River Cray corridor as a strong feature within the town.
Any comments on the design code for Crayford should be sent by Friday 28 March
