The sun shone down on the official opening of the Falconwood Children's Centre this week (6 May). Parents, carers and children gathered to watch the Mayor of Bexley, Cllr Nigel Betts cut the ribbon before they took part in a range of fun activities.

Nearly 70 excited youngsters took part in the fun that included face painting, bouncy castle, arts and craft activities, a play dough area, two Play, Sign and Rhyme sessions and a special visit from PCSO Steve, the police mascot.

Based in the Falconwood Community Centre the Children's Centre joins together an already successful Ofsted registered pre-school, two childminders groups, a twins club, a dance club and an arts group.

Children's Centre status will see the services remain on the site, but will enable local community groups and partners to provide local people with access to healthcare advice, along with training and employment information.

"I am delighted to be able to welcome the Falconwood Children Centre to our list of successful centres across the borough," says Acting Leader of the Council and Cabinet Member for Children's Services, Cllr Teresa O'Neill. "A children's centre provides a one stop shop for parents, carers and their children, with access to information and support available under one roof. We are lucky enough to be building on solid foundations at Falconwood. I feel sure that new centre will prove to be every bit as popular as the others."

The Children's Centre is based at Falconwood Community Centre, Falconwood Parade, The Green (Off Hook Lane) Welling.
