Free Cycle Courses For May Half Term
Bexley's youngsters can sign-up for free cyclist training courses, which will run during the May half-term holiday.
The courses, organised by the Council, aim to give cyclists basic safety awareness using a mix of fun off-road exercises and practical on- road training.
Courses are open to anyone aged ten or over, who lives or goes to school in the borough. Each course is ten hours long (two and a half hours each morning or afternoon) for a week.
Children must attend every session to complete the course, and must provide a roadworthy bicycle and an approved cycle helmet (not full-face).
Cabinet Member for Transport Councillor Peter Craske said: "This is a wonderful opportunity for our young residents to increase their activity levels, while learning how to keep themselves safer on the roads.
Cycling is becoming a popular means of transport, especially in the summer, so I urge all parents with children who want to cycle on the road, to book now. It is free and the children learn life long skills in road safety."
Places on the courses are limited and must be pre-booked. To book a place, or for further information, call the Road Safety Unit on 020 8308 7753 or e-mail roadsafetyeducation@bexley.gov.uk
Course dates are as follows:
Tuesday 27 to Friday 30 May 2008
- Sherwood Park Primary School - 9.30am to 12.00pm
- Erith School - 1.30pm to 4.00pm
