Guided Walk Around Historic Foots Cray
If you are interested in local history, don't forget to make a date in your
diary for Tuesday 17 June.
Bexley's Community Archivist, Oliver Wooller, has organised a guided walk
around the village of Foots Cray, taking in various sites of historic interest.
The walk will include a rare opportunity to view inside Harenc School, formerly
Foots Cray National School, founded by local philanthropist, Benjamin Harenc,
in 1815. There will also be a chance to look around inside the ancient Parish
Church of All Saints. A site visit to Foots Cray Place, the spectacular Palladian
villa built in 1754 and later home of the fabulously wealthy Lord Bexley,
is also on the agenda.
The walk starts at 7.15pm and places must be booked in advance. A booking
form and further details are available from Bexley Local Studies and Archives
Centre on 020 8836 7369 as well as all local libraries. Tickets cost £3
and walkers will receive a guide book entitled 'Footling about in Foots Cray',
containing photographs, maps and documents relating to the area.
