Author, Martin Davies, presented the first ever 'Billy' Award to Bostall Library Reading Group during a special ceremony at Central Library, Bexleyheath, recently.

More than 60 people attended the first ever 'Billy' Award ceremony at Central Library, Bexleyheath, on 15 May.

The enthusiastic audience, members of reading groups based throughout Bexley's libraries, voted for the most popular book read last year.

A draw was then made from all those who had voted for the winning book (Khaled Hosseini's 'The Kite Runner') and as a result, Bostall Library Reading Group won the coveted 'Billy' - a small bust of William Shakespeare which will be kept on display at the library throughout the year.

The presentation was made by Martin Davies, author of 'The Conjuror’s Bird'. The author went on to speak of the importance of reading groups, pointing out: "Nowadays, publishers will always ask, before they publish, whether a book will appeal to a reading group.”
