Bexley to Hold its First Film Festival
Up and coming filmmakers, many from within the London Borough of Bexley,
are about to see their creations played on the 'Big Screen', after entering the
first ever Bexley Film Festival.
Earlier this year, aspiring filmmakers were invited to submit their offerings
to the Bexley Film Festival, organised by Pointless Taxi Productions, after its
members were invited by the Town Centre Management to take part in the borough's
annual summer arts festival.
Around 30 films were submitted and of these, 17 will be screened at Bexleyheath
Cineworld on 11 June. No criteria was set for the fims, which range from just
under a couple of minutes long to 22 minutes. The Arts Council of Bexley will
award a trophy to the maker of the film judged the best.
Competition will include a premier viewing of Pointless Taxi Production's
latest film, 'Gra££iti', which is aimed at Year 7 school children
and explores the financial implications of graffiti. The thought-provoking production
will be shown at local schools in the future.
Actor, Lewis Clark, 18, who stars in 'Gra££iti' and helped put
Bexley Film Festival together said: "We really appreciate Cineworld and
the London Borough of Bexley giving us the chance to organise the festival.”
Cllr Peter Catterall, Cabinet Member for Leisure, Arts and Tourism, who will
open the festival said: "I am thoroughly looking forward to the first ever
Bexley Film Festival. Film is a great way to both challenge and inspire."
Doors open at 5.30pm with the first screening at 6pm. Some of the films are
age restricted and therefore the event is not suitable for children under the
age of 12. Tickets are available from the London Borough of Bexley's Neighbourhood
Services on 020 8284 5512 or by emailing community.safety@bexley.gov.uk.
