Public at Work in Foots Cray Meadows
The London Borough of Bexley and the Friends of Foots Cray Meadows are holding
their first public work day at the Meadows on Saturday 28 June in an effort to
improve it for both people and wildlife.
Organisers hope that anyone who appreciates the beauty of the Meadows will
see the day as an opportunity to improve the site while working alongside like-minded
people. There will also be a chance to discuss plans for future work days.
There will be a range of activities during the day from 10am to 12.30pm with
something suitable for all abilities.
Depending on the number of volunteers the work will include: litter picking
along the river and wildflower meadows, replacing the chicken wire on the wooden
bridge in the wetland area, protecting old willow trunks with chicken wire and
laying logs and spreading bark on footpaths in North Cray Woods.
Volunteers should meet at 10am at the Wildlife and Information Centre behind
the restored stable block close to Rectory Lane car park.
Suitable clothing must be worn, including strong footwear. Gloves, litter
pickers, rubbish bags, tools and materials will be provided. Volunteers will
need to bring their own refreshments. Children under 16 must be accompanied by
an adult.
