On 10 June the London Borough of Bexley signed a Partnering Charter with its professional transport and traffic engineering services provider, Mouchel.

The Charter sets out key common objectives, such as 'acting in good faith', 'working towards continuing improvement' and 'valuing the skills of others'.

Bexley's Contracts and Performance Team Leader, Andrew Sims, confirms: "We have been engaged in discussions with Mouchel for some time now about how to develop the way we work together. The Partnering Charter is designed to facilitate team-working and build existing relationships, rather than being a contractual binding."

Mouchel has supported the Council since April 2004 and recently signed a two-year extension, taking the contract through to March 2010. Mouchel plays a pivotal role in providing highways and safety improvement schemes in Bexley Borough. This includes road safety, traffic calming, pedestrian and cycling schemes, parking schemes, transport planning, road safety audits and town centre regeneration.

Mouchel’s staff are already located alongside Council colleagues at Wyncham House, Sidcup, encouraging a single team ethos. Mouchel has also recently invited Council staff from Wyncham House to work in its office at Kingswood House, Sidcup.

Mouchel’s technical director Paul Martin adds: "We have been working together in an integrated way for a number of years now. Signing the Charter recognises what is already in place and identifies areas where structured management processes can be streamlined to save time, add value to the services provided and ultimately save public money."
