Independence Day for Bexley's Adult Social Care Users
To help ensure that clients of Bexley's Adult Social Care Services are able
to live as independently as possible, the London Borough of Bexley has organised
an 'Independence Day' event to inform users of service changes and their individual
rights.
The 'Independence Day' will take place at the Holiday Inn, Black Prince Interchange,
Southwold Road, Bexley, on 4 July, from 10am - 4pm (refreshments from 9.15am).
Carrying the slogan "Your Independence, Your Life, Your Way", the event
is open to those aged 18 and over, but the Council would particularly like to
hear from older service users who may have concerns about Individual Budgets.
The day will also cover self-assessment as well as provide an opportunity to
test out the new forms and to give feedback.
The move comes as a series of changes take place under the Social and Community
Change Programme, drawn up earlier this year following full public consultation.
Cllr Sharon Massey, Cabinet Member for Health and Adult Social Care said: "The
main aim is to ensure that resources are distributed fairly amongst service users,
giving them more control over how the money is spent. This will happen through
Individual Budgets, which empower people to decide what they need in order to
live independent lives, rather than having to fit in with what social services
can offer.
"We believe it is very important that our service users have a full say
in how their individual needs are met and that they understand and take advantage
of all the opportunities now available to them."
As numbers for the event are limited, pre-booking is essential – the
earlier the better to save disappointment. Reservations can be made through June
Knowles on 0208 836 8090. Details of special dietary or mobility requirements
will also be needed.
