Future Of Primary Education In Bexley
The Strategy for Change that sets out the exciting new future for Bexley's
primary schools over the next 15 years was agreed by Cabinet Members at their
meeting last week (17 June).
"The vision for primary school provision in the Borough we have approved
has been designed to improved standards and life chances for children as well
as offering something for the community in the form of new children's centres
and extended school services," says Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for
Schools, Adult Education and Youth Services, Cllr
Simon Windle. "This
is a look into the future of education in Bexley. The strategy has given us
the opportunity to overhaul primary education in the Borough, providing innovative
and dynamic new ways to deliver high quality outcomes for our children."
The Strategy is subject to approval by the Department for Children, Schools
and Families. If approved the DCSF will release a grant of £3million
in 2009/2010, with further funds subsequently through the Primary Capital Programme.
The additional funds will help deliver the planned improvements and build on
progress already made by the Council.
The main aims of the strategy are to ensure -
- All Bexley's Primary Schools are equipped for 21st Century learning
- Focused support on vulnerable children and families
- Schools are at the heart of communities
- That primary school provision in Bexley reflects local demand
- Primary Schools are innovative and radical
The strategy is the result of extensive consultation with primary school headteachers
and strong partnership working with key stakeholders across the borough.
Cllr Windle continues: "This is a living and developing strategy. Much
is likely to change over the next 15 years and we will be careful to move with
the times. I can also assure parents and schools that any specific proposal
will be the subject of further consultation before it is put in place."
