Summer is here and the North Cray Neighbourhood Centre, Davis Way, will
soon be launching a fun-packed Summer Action programme for 2008.
Summer Action is a partnership of groups providing opportunities for local
young people and families. The launch, which takes place on Saturday 12 July
from 10am until noon, will enable local families and residents to see what is
on offer at the centre throughout the summer and to book places. The event will
be formally launched by Cllr
Katie Perrior, Bexley's Cabinet Member for Community
Affairs, and will include a demonstration from the centre's Yoga Club, Adult
Education Dance Club and Boxing Club.
As part of the summer activities, Sure Start Children's Centre, which has
a base at NCNC, will be running fun sessions for children aged 8 and under (and
their families) which will include arts and crafts, cartoon drawing and healthy
eating advice.
For older children and youths, the centre's Youth Action and Diversity Trust
will be organising sport, drama, cartoon drawing, dance and bowling for young
people aged 8 to 19 years. There will also be a summer football league on the
all-weather pitch. And don't miss the chance to learn office and business skills
as part of a Summer University programme!
Also on the Trust's agenda is a chance to take the nationally recognised Adventure
Service Challenge. The scheme, which NCNC is running for 8-13-year-old, introduces
youngsters to first aid, health and hygiene.
Meanwhile, the centre's popular Mapalim playscheme and educational development
organiser, which runs nursery provision at NCNC throughout the year, has teamed
up with the London Borough of Bexley to provide a series of fun and educational
courses. Events include creative arts, drama and music projects. There will be
child care orientated training courses for 15 - 19-year-olds, as well as a darkroom
photography course for 11-14-year-olds as part of the Summer University program.
And if that isn't enough to whet your appetite, the centre will continue to
run all its regular activities such as yoga, karate and resource training for
adults as well as boxing and karate for young people. The residents' Coffee Club
will hold its popular Bingo and quiz sessions while the Asian Resource Centre
and Pat's Lunch Club will cater for local residents' regular lunch clubs.
