Enthusiastic youngsters from schools across the borough impressed judges with
their green-fingered expertise during this year's Schools' Bexley in Bloom
competition.
All their hard work came to fruition on Tuesday 15 July when the Mayor of
Bexley, Cllr Nick O'Hare, made the official presentation of trophies and certificates
at a special awards ceremony held at the Civic Offices. Gardening vouchers
for the winners were provided by sponsors, Ruxley Manor Garden Centre.

who received the Mayor's Trophy and a £65 voucher. Second place went
to St Peter Chanel School, Sidcup (£40 voucher) and third place went
to Barrington Primary, Bexleyheath, who picked up a £20 voucher.
Meanwhile the winner of the School Vegetable Plot category, was St Paulinus

Afterwards, the Mayor said: "I was delighted to see the dedication and
enthusiasm shown in the schools’ category for Bexley in Bloom. A great
deal of thought, planning, hard work and imagination has gone into all of the
entries and everybody who took part has every reason to feel proud of their
efforts. Special thanks also goes to Ruxley Manor Garden Centre for sponsoring
Bexley in Bloom and making this competition possible."
This year's competition gave all entrants a chance to see what standard their
garden had reached. Judges assessed entries against nationally recognised judging
criteria and all those taking part were presented with an appropriate certificate
marking their grade. Judges also produced a mini report with constructive comments
about each entry.
Altogether, 20 schools entered into one or more categories of the competition.
