Slade Green Community Use Research Gets Underway
The London Borough of Bexley today announced it had appointed the consultants, WM Enterprise, to undertake research into the need for new community facilities in Slade Green. The aim of the study is to inform the options on the size and configuration of new community space within the context of the Council’s proposals to redevelop the Howbury Centre site.
“WM Enterprise have substantial experience of advising on the development of community facilities and undertaking community research and their appointment will help us assess the viability of new facilities and develop the business case for new community provision,” Cllr Teresa O’Neill, Leader of the London Borough of Bexley said today.
“I would also like to assure Slade Green residents, that in order to prevent disruption of services to the community, the existing community space will continue to be available for community use until the completion of the new facility.
“There are a number of ways the community can get involved in this research and I encourage all residents and community groups with an interest in Slade Green, to contribute their views and ideas for the redevelopment of your community facilities,” said Cllr O’Neill.
The first research stage involves reviewing the range of activities currently being delivered in the local area, existing levels of use and future demand for community space. This will be informed by a series of interviews with existing groups using the Howbury Centre, representatives of other community facilities and the community and voluntary sector.
To capture the views of local residents, WME will hold a public consultation meeting and undertake a door-to-door resident survey.
The survey will reflect the views of a representative sample of residents in the North End Ward. It will ask residents for their views on the current provision of community facilities and their thoughts on future needs.
The public consultation meeting, to be held after the summer break, will enable residents to contribute their views and discuss ideas for the new centre. Details of the date and location of the public consultation meeting will be announced shortly.
“Information gathered through the research and consultation will be analysed and presented in a final report to Council officers. This report will help the Council make an informed decision about future community provision on the redeveloped site.
“The redevelopment of the Howbury Centre site is an important part of the Bexley First programme” Cllr O’Neill said today. The promised re-provision of a Library and community services, new public space, children’s play areas and some retail elements included in the Howbury Regeneration Brief will deliver real improvements in community facilities for local residents of Slade Green.
This is a genuine opportunity for residents to shape future community facilities for their community.
