A range of special events took place at Children's Centres across the borough
last month to celebrate National Childminding Week (16 - 20 June).
The theme for the week was ‘Sharing and Reading Books with Children’ and
special 'Gruffalo' storytime sessions were held at West Street, Northend, Greenmead
and St. Augustine’s Children’s Centres. After the sessions, in keeping
with the Gruffalo theme, childminders and children took part in some monster
messy play.
"What a lovely way for our childminders to get together and share their
experiences," says Cabinet Member for Children's Services, Cllr
June Slaughter. "As
well as being great fun, these kind of events provide an opportunity for our
childminders to learn from each other and make new contacts. We are fortunate
to have a very successful Childminding Network in Bexley and this kind of fun
event for children and their childminders is key to maintaining that high standard."
Along with story sessions, network childminders braved the weather to meet
the mobile library in Danson Park and together with children, enjoyed celebrating ‘Kipper’s
18th Birthday’. Later on in the week, childminders and children took part
in a special ‘Gruffalo Hunt’ in Oxleas Woods.
