Team Temo has added to its already impressive record by winning the Ball Court League's Championship Trophy for the sixth time.

It was the eighth Championship final for The Ball Court League, which is run in partnership with the London Borough of Bexley, Metropolitan Police, Charlton Athletic Football Club Community Scheme and Welling United Football Club. The scheme is also supported by Hyde Housing, London and Quadrant Housing, Orbit South Housing and Gallions Housing.

The league is aimed at all youngsters aged 14-19, encouraging them away from playing in the streets and instead helping them focus on healthy, fun activities which develop leadership and team skills.

Each team has a young person manager who receives league updates every week and makes sure that their players attend on time. All attendances are certificated and, in addition, credit can be given to Millennium Volunteers Schemes, the volunteer sections and physical recreation sections of the Duke of Edinburgh's Award Scheme. These can be put on CVs or Records of Achievement to prove at interviews what participants have done in their spare time

Nine five-a-side teams signed up to take part in the latest Ball Court Summer League which ran from 21 April through to 18 July. The final was played out between Lower Belvedere and Team Temo, with Temo winning 7 - 3.

A presentation evening, attended by friends and family, was held on Tuesday 22 July at the Civic Offices. Tony Ball (Bexley Youth Development Officer) and Dean Redwood from Charlton Athletic Community Scheme, presented the Championship Trophy to Temo and Lower Belvedere also received a trophy as runners up. The trophies were provided by Cllr John Fuller and the Co-operative Group supplied refreshments.

The next Ball Court League starts on 15 September and is open to anyone aged between 14-19 years old. Further information is available from the London Borough of Bexley's Neighbourhood Services on 0800 389 5013.
