One of the London Borough of Bexley's road safety team has received an award
for his contribution to reducing road casualties in London.
Chris King was presented with the Laurie Bunn Road Safety Award at the London
Accident Prevention Council's (LAPC) Annual General Meeting this week by TV presenter
Nick Ross, LAPC’s President.
Chris started his career in Road Safety in 1972 as an assistant Road Safety
Officer with the London Borough of Southwark and for the last 20 years has been
Road Safety Manager at the London Borough of Richmond Upon Thames. He left there
in April of this year to take up the position of School Crossing Patrol Co-ordinator
at Bexley, where he has lived for the last 30 years.
Chris said: "I was really shocked yet delighted to receive this award. Reducing
the terrible toll of road casualties should be a priority for us all. So many
lives are cut short or changed forever on our roads and this is particularly
tragic when it involves young people. I am delighted to have joined Bexley, who
have shown a real commitment to making our roads safer for everyone."
Bexley's Cabinet Member for Transport, Cllr
Peter Craske said: "I am
delighted that Chris' achievements and contribution to road safety in London,
have been formally recognised. We're lucky to have someone with so much experience
in our road safety team."
