CPD Success for Northumberland Heath

Northumberland Heath Primary School has become the first primary school in the UK to achieve the Continuing Professional Development Mark award.

The CPD Mark demonstrates the school’s long-term commitment to the professional development of every member of the school team.

In preparation for their assessment, Northumberland Heath School had to produce a portfolio of evidence to support eight key aspects of CPD - ranging from the induction of new staff to its work with the local community.

Headteacher, Angela Barry said: “The CPD Mark is a very good focus for CPD practice which allows you to gauge the quality of your provision against the school’s needs. I also found the process extremely useful for organising all the information I need to gather together for my School Improvement Plan and for future inspections.”

The process involved in gaining the award shows that both the school and London Borough of Bexley have taken a serious approach to staff training making a commitment to staff to help to develop their knowledge and skills so that they become better equipped to succeed. The award is just one of the school’s many exciting new initiatives.

The London Borough of Bexley's Director for Children and Young People's Services, Dr Deborah Absalom presented the school with the award at a special celebration event earlier this month (15 July).
