Credit Where it's Due

Bexley pensioners have just three months to apply for backdated pension credit payments.

While 2.7 million pensioners across the country are receiving the Pension Credit, it’s estimated that nearly 1.8 million may be missing out on their entitlements.

London Borough of Bexley has teamed up with the Department for Works and Pensions in a campaign to encourage pensioners to claim any cash they’re due.

Many older people mistakenly think that if they own their own home or have savings that they’re not entitled to Pension Credit. However, nearly half those currently receiving Pension Credit own their own home and about three quarters have some savings.

Bexley pensioners are being advised that if they miss the 6 October deadline to claim payments their claims will only be backdated for a period of three months.

Pension Credit guarantees single pensioners an income of £124.05 per week and couples an income of £189.35.

To claim or get more information please call the Local Pension Service on 020 8218 4775.
