Bexley To Hold Junior Hockey Development Centre
Exciting new opportunities for young people will be available following the
announcement that Bexley Hockey Development Group has been selected by Kent
Hockey to host the Junior Development Centre for North West Kent and Bexley.
The scheme has been created to support the initiative from the England Hockey
Association to develop a nationwide system that consistently delivers high
quality coaching to young players, helps to identify potential hockey players
at a younger age and provides them with the support and advice they need to
shine at the sport.
Bexley has been chosen to host one of the five new junior development centres
to be based across Kent and Bexley. This is great news for all aspiring young
sports players, as they can now take advantage of top class coaching to develop
their skills locally.
The programme in Bexley will target the under 12 and under 13 age groups in
the first year. Training will take place at local sport colleges, with the
under 12s training at Erith School and the under 13s at Hurstmere School, Sidcup.
To be involved, young players who live in Bexley or North West Kent need to
take part in an assessment session on Sunday 14 September at Hurstmere School,
Sidcup. Under 12 boys and girls should attend from 12 noon to 2.30pm and under
13s from 2.30pm to 5pm.
Following the assessment day, twenty-five young players will be selected to
attend a 12-week coaching programme at the Bexley Junior Development Centres.
Under 13 players will also have the exciting opportunity to be selected for
the Junior Academy. Top coaching will be available for all those attending
and coaches from local hockey clubs will also be around to provide advice and
support for players who are not already involved with a club.
If you are under 12 (born in 1997) or under 13 (born in 1996) and would like
to be involved in this exciting programme, don't delay. No previous experience
is necessary, as the assessment day is designed to allow both experienced players
and beginners with potential to shine.
The assessment day is absolutely free and the 12-week programme that follows
will cost £70 per player, which includes some competition days.
