North Cray Neighbourhood Centre picked up a Sustainability Award at the recent London District Surveyors' Association 'Built In Quality' Awards.
The prestigious event, held at the Brit Oval in June, was attended by more than 100 guests. They represented winning construction teams working on a variety of London-wide building projects.
North Cray Neighbourhood Centre, Davis Way, which opened in February 2007, was recognised for its overall quality of design, including features which reduce environmental impact. For instance, the building has an ecological 'green roof' which absorbs carbon dioxide, gives off oxygen, provides insulation and helps manage the rain water discharge from the roof, which would otherwise be taken to a surface water sewer and be costly in terms of treatment. It also boasts high standards of insulation, rain harvesting facilities, efficient heating systems and natural ventilation.
The contractor, Coombs Canterbury Ltd, received an engraved pewter plate and certificate on behalf of the construction team which involved Coombs and the London Borough of Bexley.
